8 Ways to Have a Better Day

A yoga teacher once shared a quote with me and it changed my life:

“For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin — real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way. Something to be got through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.” [Alfred D. Souza]

Up until that point, I had looked at my life in terms of milestones... Once I finish college, I’ll really be an adult. Once I get promoted, my real career will begin. Once I pay off my loans, then I can start doing the things I love.

Then I realized that it’s all real life and it’s all worthy of being loved.

Having long term goals is an important way to keep life in perspective and to make sure you’re on track to achieving your dreams. But having small daily goals is just as important to keep you motivated and moving forward. By achieving small goals on a daily basis, you instill in yourself sense of accomplishment that makes it easier to take on the big stuff.

Here a some easy ways to love your life every day:

  1. Have a morning ritual. Whether it’s a cup of warm water with lemon or a little yoga stretch while still in bed, find something to calmly wake your mind and body from slumber before the day’s excitement begins.
  2. Be kind. It can be easy to anger when dealing with others we can’t understand. It’s important to remember that we all have bad days and you can’t understand what someone else is going through. So better to err on the side of kindness. It will keep you calm and feeling positive.
  3. Go outside. Fresh air and vitamin D will ignite your brain. There is no less expensive gym in the world than the one right outside your door. Don’t make excuses for this. Everyone can find 20 minutes in their day for a jog or brisk walk.
  4. Make a to-do list. Take a few minutes at the beginning of your work day to make a list of 5 things that you want to achieve that day. Be realistic. Breakdown large projects into parts that can be crossed off the list to help you see your progress towards a greater goal.
  5. Keep a “Worry” journal. Keep track of all the things that are stressing you out, no matter how small. Look back on it from time to time and reflect on what is still stressing you out, and what isn’t. It will surprise you to see what worrisome things have passed without much effort.
  6. Keep a tidy home. Get rid of things you don’t love or need. You shouldn’t own anything that you don’t know about. Every item should have a designated place. The process of simplifying your belongings into things you only love or need will organize your mind as well as your home. The same goes for your work place.
  7. Be thankful. Be thankful for health, loved ones, and all of the opportunities you’ve had... Reach out to a friend or family member that you haven’t heard from in a while and let them know you’re thinking about them.
  8. Nourish your mind & body. It’s up to us to keep the temple that is our body alive and well. Think about your computer. If you don’t keep it running properly, it will crash. And you can’t buy yourself a new body… Be cognisant of what you put in your body and how it makes you feel, physically and mentally. Make a commitment to improving your spirit via the foods you consume!

Happy, Healthy Earth Day + 3 Reasons Why We Support Organic

Posted on April 22, 2013 by Kyleen Keenan | 0 Comments

It was EASY for NOT YOUR SUGAR MAMAS to choose to use organic ingredients in our products on taste and nutrient value alone.  However, there are a number of reasons why we strongly adhere to organic standards day in and day out.

Our mission is to spread love through each one of our kickass products. We believe that in the way we do business – with products that nourish your body, by communicating positive and encouraging words, and behavior that is kind to the planet – we can accomplish just that. We believe that organic and ethically sourced ingredients allow us the most possibilities to have a positive impact. Here are three reasons why.

1. Organic is best for our consumers overall health – organic foods reduce your exposure to toxins including pesticide residues. According to the President’s Canceer Panel, there is a strong link between the increasing rate of cancer and our polluted planet. The advice? Choose foods grown with out pesticides or chemical fertilizers to decrease your exposure. Organic foods avoid these chemicals. Even more, healthy soils contain more nutrients than soils that have been heavily polluted and stripped of natural minerals.

 2. Organic Foods are best for farmer’s health & livelihood – Would you want to be exposed to a high rate of chemicals each day? Industrial farming contributes to the highest amount of petroleum used per industry, with a big chunk of that due to the synthetic fertilizers they use. I feel bad for the people exposed to that EVERY DAY! Using organic methods protects the farmers from that exposure. Organic farmers are also able to improve their income due to the price premiums and reduced input costs that organic farming provides. In fact, organic systems are actually three times more profitable than conventional counterparts.

 3. Its best for the PLANET & future generations! Organic farming helps protect the soil, water, and air from toxic chemicals that otherwise pollute the earth and our bodies.  Organic farming helps build and improve soil help and conserve the biodiversity and wildlife habitats because more birds, animals, and beneficial insects live on organic farms. It helps fight global warming by reducing energy inputs and carbon.  Research indicates that conventional farming practices emit 40% more greenhouse gases per pound of crop produced relative to organic farming methods – so reduce your damn carbon footprint, spread the love, and eat ORGANIC!
